New projects are popping up all along the Red Line throughout Dorchester in a plan that will surely revitalize the area. Below are 4 different projects that if all move forward would bring over 1,200 new residences and thousands of square feet worth of retail space to the area.
This project located at 25 Morrissey Blvd is under construction and will consist of 278 rental apartments with 1 and 2 Bedroom options. There will be public and personal transportation options with 143 Parking Spaces and also close proximity to the JFK/UMASS station of the Red Line.
Phase II of this project located on Dorchester Ave will add 84 more residences, 43 more parking spots and another 4,000 square feet of retail space to what is already existing. This development has easy access to Ashmont Station on the Red Line and the Boston Redevelopment Authority has already approved the expansion. The plan is for construction to begin in early 2016.
This proposed project which is under review by the BRA would consist of up to a dozen smaller buildings built on 4 acres along Dorchester Avenue, Hancock Street and Greenmount Street and inclose proximity to Savin Hill Station of the Red Line. If it comes to fruition, developer Demetri Dasco of Atlas Investment Group would have 375 residential units made up of both apartments and small condos as well as restaurants and a parking garage. Dasco’s goal is to create middle-income housing with 2 bedroom homes with a parking spot being offer for around only $400,000. If approved, he hopes to start construction early next year.
South Bay Complex Expansion This is the biggest project of the 4 and also currently under review. The plan by Edens Inc. is for 500 residences, smaller retail establishments, restaurants, a new cinema and a hotel. The project is commuter friendly being less than a half mile away from Andrew Station on the Red Line and also close to many bus lines. The residences would feature amenities like many South End buildings with roofdecks, swimming pools and large community gathering spaces.
All 4 of these projects provide unique and exciting opportunities for those looking to be outside of downtown Boston yet conveniently located to transit for when they do need to get there. If these developers can indeed provide quality residences at a significantly lower price, living here would be an easy decision for many.
